Higonokami is a Japanese folding knife

At first glance, it resembles a well-known pocket knife, but despite these apparent similarities, it hides a unique history, as well as precision workmanship, worthy of the best Japanese masters. This is an unusual and fascinating type of blade, manufactured in the Land of the Cherry Blossom for more than 100 years.

The design of Japanese knives of this type, was born in 1896 in the city of Miki located in Hyōgo Prefecture, hence the name, which directly refers to the place of origin, as Higonokami can be translated as: “ruler of Higo.”

The times of its creation are associated with one of the most important periods in the history of Japan - the so-called Meiji Revolution. It was a time of intense change, modernization of the country, as well as the adoption of Western models, which led to a turnaround in the established social order, but also the strengthening of Japan's position on the international stage.

The creator of Higonokami knives was a certain Komataro Nago, a master metalworker who used his knowledge and skills to create short, folding weapons. These knives quickly became very popular, due to their single-sided blade - setting them apart from the competition - as well as their precision craftsmanship. As a result, these knives, to this day, play an important role in Japanese culture and tradition, and despite more than 100 years since the first model was created, they guarantee precision craftsmanship.
