Returns & Refunds Policy

You have 14 days after receiving your order to request a return.

To be eligible for a return, the item must be unused, undamaged, complete, with all tags, accessories, manuals, protective materials, and in its original packaging. The item must be returned in a condition suitable for resale. You will also need the receipt or proof of purchase.

To request a return, please contact us at info@japan-knives.com before sending the item back. Returns sent without prior approval will not be accepted.

Return shipping costs

The customer is responsible for all costs of returning the item, including return shipping, transport, courier, delivery, packaging, insurance, and any other costs related to sending the item back to us.

Customers returning items from outside the European Union must contact us before sending the package back, as international returns may require specific customs documentation. Returns sent with incorrect or incomplete customs documentation may be refused or may result in additional charges, which may be deducted from the refund where applicable.

International returns outside the European Union

For orders shipped outside the European Union under Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) terms, duties and taxes included in the price paid at checkout are treated as part of the order price.

If a return is accepted, the refund will cover the value of the returned product, provided that the item meets our return conditions.

Return shipping costs, customs clearance costs related to the return shipment, brokerage fees, customs handling fees, and any additional import/export charges arising from the return shipment are the responsibility of the customer and are non-refundable.

Any additional customs duties, import VAT, taxes, customs clearance fees, brokerage fees, customs handling fees, or other import/export-related charges that were not paid to us at checkout and arise in connection with the return shipment are non-refundable by us.

European Union 14-day right of withdrawal

If your order is shipped within the European Union and you are a consumer, you have the right to withdraw from the contract within 14 days of receiving the goods, without giving any reason.

In the case of a valid withdrawal, we will refund the value of the returned product and the cost of the least expensive standard delivery method offered by us for the original shipment.

Additional costs resulting from choosing a delivery method other than the least expensive standard delivery option offered by us are non-refundable.

The customer is responsible for the direct cost of returning the goods.

Handcrafted products and natural variations

Many of our knives are handcrafted or finished by hand. Minor differences in size, finish, blade pattern, handle colour, wood grain, engraving position, surface texture, kurouchi finish, kasumi finish, damascus pattern, or other visual details are natural features of handcrafted products and are not considered defects.

Product photos are for reference only. Small visual differences between the product received and the product shown online do not constitute a defect, provided that the product matches the essential description and intended use.

Personalized and engraved items

Personalized, custom-made, special-order, or engraved items cannot be returned as a standard return, unless the item is defective or does not match the order.

Carbon steel knives and care responsibility

Carbon steel knives require proper care. They should be cleaned and dried immediately after use and should not be left wet, stored in a humid environment, washed in a dishwasher, or used on bones, frozen food, or hard surfaces.

Patina is a natural effect of using carbon steel knives and is not considered a defect. Rust, corrosion, stains, chips, cracks, or other damage caused by improper use, improper cleaning, improper storage, or failure to follow care instructions are not grounds for a standard return.

Refunds

Once we have received and inspected your return, we will notify you whether the refund has been approved.

If approved, the refund will be issued to your original payment method within 10 business days. Please note that it may take additional time for your bank, card issuer, or payment provider to process and post the refund.

We reserve the right to refuse a return or reduce the refund if the item is returned used, damaged, incomplete, without original packaging, or in a condition unsuitable for resale.
