Paring / Peeling knives
The paring knife is one of the essential tools in the kitchen. It is especially useful when cutting and peeling small products in your hand, it is an indispensable element in the kitchen. A peeling knife can work great with a chef's knife. Therefore, in the initial purchases, it is worth focusing on these two shapes and then expanding your collection.
The curved tipped knife is especially liked by chefs who specialize in French cuisine. It is used i.a. for cutting in the Tourne technique, which involves cutting vegetables on seven sides, which taper at the ends in the shape of an ellipse. The word Tourne is derived from French and can be translated as "turned", a cutting technique that chefs will learn at the beginning of their culinary education. The second shape is a knife with a straight blade resembling a Gyuto knife in a mini version. It can be used, inter alia, for peeling vegetables and fruits such as potatoes, onions, garlic, apples, mangoes, removing seeds or cutting out unwanted elements.
Each of the knife shapes has its advantages and disadvantages. The choice of a knife is strictly dependent on its use in the kitchen. If we need a product for more sophisticated decorations, it is worth choosing a model with a curved tip, and in other cases, a classic knife with a straight cutting edge will work best. The paring knife is most often available in lengths from 6.5 to 10 cm. The size we prefer is 9 cm.
