Regular application is crucial, particularly for knives forged from high-carbon steels like Blue and White steels. These steels are prone to rapid oxidation if not maintained correctly.
Derived from the cold pressing of sweet camellia seeds, Tsubaki Camellia Oil has been safeguarding blades, tools, and even weapons throughout Japan for centuries. This oil is acclaimed for its acid-free, non-drying properties, and it is both tasteless and odorless, making it safe for food contact and non-toxic.
A minimal amount, just a few drops on a paper napkin or a kitchen towel, is sufficient to coat the blade with a thin, protective layer that staves off surface oxidation and corrosion.
Care Instructions:
For high-carbon steel knives, it’s advisable to apply Tsubaki Camellia Oil using a soft, clean cloth after each use. This routine is especially important for those residing in humid climates or near the sea, to avert rust and shield the knife’s surface.
For knives made from rust-resistant steels (such as ZDP-189, R2, VG-10), a monthly application of the oil, or bi-monthly depending on how frequently the knife is used, is recommended.
Ensure to wash and rinse your knife with water before using it with food again. This simple step helps maintain the pristine condition and longevity of your Japanese knives.
